Memphis Depay is at his dream club but admits he wants to play more for Manchester United.
Depay moved to Old Trafford from PSV Eindhoven ahead of the 2015-16 season but he struggled to make an impact in his debut campaign in the Premier League and he has managed just one start under Jose Mourinho this year.
Mourinho has told the 22-year-pld that he believes in him and he is desperate to start proving himself on the pitch.
"Things are going well on the training pitch. I am fresh and fit. Mourinho is a great coach. He has told me he believes in me, both in person, but also publicly," Depay told Metro.
"I would rather not talk about last season. That is something of the past. I should have performed better. Being a fringe player is not the role I want.
"I am not happy just because I play for Manchester United. This is my dream club, but I still want to play."
Depay started the 3-1 win over Northampton in the EFL Cup while he has been introduced from the bench in four games.
He was included in the Netherlands squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Belarus and France and hopes he can do enough for the national side to convince Mourinho that he deserves to be included in his plans.
"It is difficult that I am not always part of the match squad [at United]. I feel like a loaded gun. I am ready to play, but I have to wait for my chance," he explained.
"That's why I am so happy to be part of the national team again. This is a chance to show myself. I feel like a gun ready to fire on the pitch, but not off it."
