Derby still an option for Gold

2,000 Guineas winner Galileo Gold could yet run in the Investec Derby.

Trainer Hugo Palmer had intimated that the colt would not run in the Derby after a genetics test revealed that he had less than a one percent chance of staying the 12 furlongs.

Owners Al Shaqab Racing have not ruled out the possibility of sending him to Epsom and will wait until after the Tattersalls Irish 2000 Guineas at the Curragh before making a decision.

"We just want to leave all options open because you never know. If he happens to go to Ireland and win impressively, who knows?" said Harry Herbert, racing advisor for the owners.

"Just to shut the door completely is not something Sheikh Joaan (of Al Shaqab) wants to do and that's absolutely fine.

"I'm not saying he's going to run in the Derby. That's not going to happen unless lots of pieces of the jigsaw fall into place and even then he may not run.

"It's purely keeping everything open which is perfectly sensible."
