Ultan Dillane could be fit for Ireland's RBS Six Nations after receiving positive news regarding his ankle injury.
Dillane has won eight caps since making his Ireland debut against England at Twickenham last season but he emerged as a major doubt for this year's championship when he sustained an injury during Connacht's loss to Ulster.
He was initially ruled out for at least five to six weeks but there were fears he would be sidelined for longer if a specialist advised the 23-year-old to undergo surgery.
Fortunately, surgery is not necessary and he is expected to be available in three to four weeks, which would give him a chance of featuring in Ireland's Six Nations opener against Scotland.
While the news on Dillane is positive, there is no sign of Connacht's injury crisis easing with Jack Carty and Jake Heenan the latest to be ruled out.
Carty picked up a low grade medial knee ligament injury in the defeat to Ospreys last weekend and will sit out the Champions Cup tie against Zebre, while Heenan suffered a minor knee injury which will keep him sidelined for at least a week.
Connacht have responded to the growing injury list by signing Munster out-half Steve Crosbie and centre Tom Farrell for the remainder of the season, while prop Peter McCabe has signed a loan deal with the province.
