Dockrell looking forward to Gayle test

Ireland off-spinner George Dockrell has fond memories of the last time he faced West Indies' destructive opener Chris Gayle in a one-day international.

The two sides meet in Wednesday's Turkish Airlines One-Day International Challenge at Stormont, a match that Jason Holder's side need to win to keep alive their slim hopes of qualifying for the 2019 World Cup in England.

You can watch Ireland's Turkish Airlines One-Day International Challenge match against the West Indies on Wednesday, 13 September, live on eir Sport 1 [10.15am start]

The Windies need to beat Ireland, and then win the final four games of the five-match ODI series against England later this month, to overtake Sri Lanka in the ICC world rankings and qualify automatically as one of the world's top-eight countries.

Failure to do so will condemn the Windies to next year's World Cup qualifying tournament in Zimbabwe, alongside Ireland and Afghanistan, where they will need to reach the final to progress.

Ireland faced the Windies in their first match of the 2015 World Cup, in Nelson, and barely broke sweat in beating Gayle et al by four wickets with 25 deliveries to spare.

Dockrell took 3-50 in his ten overs, including the prize wicket of big-hitting Gayle, as Ireland restricted the Windies to 304-7.

"Beating the West Indies in Nelson was probably one of the greatest days of my career," Dockrell, 25, said.

"I bowled against Chris Gayle in the T20 Champions League [for Somerset against Royal Challengers Bangalore] in 2011 and he got a couple over on me.

"So it was nice to get one back, and get him out in Nelson.

"He is probably the best striker of a ball in world cricket. It is really good fun, and the chance to get out someone of his calibre again is a great opportunity."

Tickets for Wednesday's Turkish Airlines One-Day International Challenge match between Ireland and the West Indies on Wednesday, 13 September are available on the door at Stormont. For those who can't make it to Belfast, the match is live on eir Sport 1 [10.15am start]
