Dominant United beat Baggies

Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored twice to help extend Manchester United’s unbeaten run to ten games with a 2-0 win over West Brom at the Hawthorns in the Premier League.

The Swede - who has now scored an impressive 10 goals in nine games – broke the deadlock in the 5th minute when Jesse Lingard’s first-time cross found the 35-year-old, who left former Manchester United goalkeeper Ben Foster with no chance, putting his header directly into the corner.

United, and Ibrahimovic extended their tally in the 55th minute after the former PSG man found space in the box and with a lucky deflection off Craig Dawson, dispatched his effort into the bottom corner.

Lingard’s inclusion in the visitor’s starting eleven proved pivotal for Jose Mourinho’s side and the 24-year-old supplied Wayne Rooney with the opportunity to equal Bobby Charlton’s record, but the former Everton player was unfortunate to see his effort from outside the box pushed onto the crossbar by Foster.

The Baggies created little in terms of chances, but could have drew level when Matt Phillips found the in-form Salomón Rondón at the back-post, although the Venezuelan failed to get significant contact to test David de Gea.

United could have added their second just before the break when the returning Matteo Darmian’s miscued shot fell to Lingard – whose runs in behind the host’s backline provided problems all evening – but the midfielder failed to hold his nerve, instead smashing his effort high and wide.

Tony Pulis’ side failed to pressurise the Red Devil’s backline throughout the second-half and despite the loss, know their season will not be judged in games like these. But face another tough challenge when they travel to Arsenal on the 26th of December.

Mourinho will hope to make it eleven unbeaten when they host strugglers, and former manager David Moyes on the same date, and will look to sneak closer to the top-four positions going into the new year.
