Kieran Donaghy's autobiography 'What Do You Think Of That’ has been named the eir Sport Sports Book of the Year.
In the book, written with Kieran Shannon, Donaghy documents his ten-year inter-county career with Kerry, reflecting on the highs of winning the All-Ireland title to the lows due to injuries that have affected him in recent years.
The two-time All-Star also details parts of his life that the public were not aware of, including the roller-coaster relationship he had with his father and his struggled with dyslexia.
“I’m delighted to win this award because it means that I’ve been recognised by some of the best sports journalists in Ireland," Donaghy said of his win.
"The quality of Irish sport writing is so high and to come out on top this year makes me extremely proud. This is something I’ve worked very hard for so to win this award is a really special feeling.” 'Walking Tall' from Rob Heffernan, Paul O'Connell's 'The Battle', 'Out of Control' by Cathal McCarron and 'The Spirit of '58' from Evan Marshall had been shortlisted but it was Donaghy who emerged victorious.
Brian Quinn, Operations Director of eir Sport commented: "This is the second year of the eir Sport Sports Book of The Year award and we are delighted for Kieran Donaghy. His story is a roller-coaster ride that ties in life, sport and everything in between. It is truly a memorable read.
“On behalf of eir Sport I’d like to thank all the authors and publishers who put forward books for consideration, our judging panel and chairman for their diligent efforts to ensure the best books in 2016 were shortlisted and our friends in Publishing Ireland without whose help this awards scheme would not have been possible.”
