Banner captain faces spell out

Clare's All-Ireland winning captain Pat Donnellan is facing a long spell out after tearing his cruciate ligament in a club game.

The defender, who captained the Banner county to All-Ireland glory in 2013, suffered the injury playing for club O'Callaghans Mills against Munster champions Na Piarsaigh in a challenge game last weekend.

Donnellan's injury is more bad news for Clare manager Davy Fitzgerald ahead of the Allianz Hurling League campaign.

Fitzgerald is already without Seadna Morey who is recovering from surgery.
