Dublin & Mayo pair nominated for FOTY

Dublin's James McCarthy and Stephen Cluxton and Mayo's David Clarke and Andy Moran have been nominated for the 2017 Footballer of the Year award.

Cluxton, who captained Dublin to All-Ireland victory over Mayo on Sunday, conceded just two goals as he led the county to their fourth Sam Maguire in five years.

The selection committee increased the amount of nominees from three to four to include Mayo goalkeeper Clarke "so as not to prejudice what the final [All-Star] team selection may be."

The last goalkeeper to win the Footballer of the Year award was Martin Furlong of Offaly in 1988.

Dublin midfielder James McCarthy and Mayo forward Andy Moran complete the shortlist to succeed Lee Keegan of Mayo as the country's top footballer.

Dublin's Con O'Callaghan, Cork's Sean Powter and Galway's Michael Daly have been shortlisted for the Young Footballer of the Year award.

13 players from Dublin's three-in-a-row Sam Maguire winners are on the 45-man shortlist for the All-Star awards, while there are still nominations for Mayo.
