Dundalk begin title defence against Shamrock Rovers
Dundalk will being their quest to win a fourth straight League of Ireland crown with a visit from Shamrock Rovers on February 24th.
The fixture at Oriel Park is the standout match of the opening round, with added spice coming from the fact that Ronan Finn and Darren Meenan having left the league champions to join Rovers in recent weeks.
Stephen Kenny faces a tough task in reshaping his squad after also losing Daryl Horgan and Andy Boyle - the pair have joined Preston North End - and with other players unsure whether they will stay in the Europa League group stage participants.
The Hoops famously won four-in-a-row in the 1980s and Kenny will need to use all his brilliance to re-energise his Dundalk squad so they can match that feat.
Cork City, who have finished runners-up to the Lilywhites for the last three seasons, start with an away fixture at Finn Harps, while third-placed Derry City travel to Dalymount Park to take on Bohemians.
Two sides who will fancy their chances of making a push for the title, St. Patrick's Athletic and Bray Wanderers, meet on the opening weekend at Richmond Park.
Newly promoted sides Limerick City and Drogheda United will take on Galway United and Sligo Rovers at Eamonn Deacy Park and Market Fields respectively.
