Dylan Connolly's second-half goal was enough to give Dundalk a 1-0 victory in their Europa League qualifier first leg against Levadia Tallinn in Estonia.
The midfielder was in the right place on 53 minutes to slide in at the far post to finish Michael Duffy's pass.
After an early spell of pressure for the hosts which saw the Lilywhites goalkeeper Gary Rogers keep out a couple of efforts, the Irish side came into the contest and they could have gone ahead on a couple of occasions but Duffy and Jamie McGrath both fired narrowly wide of the target.
Robbie Benson then came close to breaking the deadlock as the first half drew to a close, his fierce drive from inside the penalty area deflected over by a home defender.
The visitors didn't have to wait long until after the break to get the lead their play deserved with Connolly's finish and the same player had an opportunity to double their advantage late on but his strike was too close to the Estonian's keeper.
The victory means that Dundalk will be strong favourites to complete the job in the second leg next Thursday while it meant manager Stephen Kenny equalled the record of 11 wins in Europe for an Ireland-based boss.
