Dunne in contention in Qatar

Paul Dunne is well-placed to challenge for the Qatar Masters heading into the weekend in Doha.

Dunne carded a two-under-par 70 to finish the day on seven-under just one shot off the lead which is shared by nine players.

The Greystones golfer made a steady start to his second round with nine successive pars before he picked up birdies at the tenth and 11th. Back-to-back bogeys at the 12th and 13th meant he remained level-par for the day head down the 14th but after two more pars, he birdied the 16th and 18th to sign for a 70.

Meanwhile, it was a difficult day for Graeme McDowell as he dropped down the leaderboard with a disappointing three-over 75.

The former US Open champion carded six bogeys and three birdies to leave him three-under for the tournament, five shots off the lead but he will be hoping to take advantage of the good conditions expected during the early stages of Saturday's third round.

There are just six shots separating the entire field with a record nine players sharing the lead heading into the third round.

Overnight leader Bradley Dredge remains in the hunt but he shares the lead with Andy Sullivan, Kiradech Aphibarnrat, Nacho Elvira, Jorge Campillo, Thomas Aiken, Jaco van Zyl, Wang Jeunghun and Mikko Korhonen.

A further seven players, including Dunne, are a shot further back, while four-time major winner Ernie Els is one of ten players on six-under.
