eir Sport extend Allianz League rights

Clip rights and archive matches added

eir Sport is delighted to announce it has extended its GAA broadcasting rights to live Allianz Leagues coverage on Saturday nights until 2022.

The new five-year deal will come into effect in May 2017 when eir Sport's current three-year deal for Allianz Leagues expires.

In addition to the new Allianz Leagues agreement, eir Sport has also secured rights to broadcast on-demand GAA clips of live and archive footage which will be made available across mobile and internet, while Ireland's only dedicated sports broadcaster has also added GAA archive rights to its portfolio.

Under the terms of the agreement GAA fans will be able to relive GAA moments from the past with up to four classic games broadcast each week on the eir Sport pack. Clips from these archive games will also be made available across mobile and internet.

“We are delighted to be extending our partnership with the GAA. It is hugely important for our customers to know that we will continue to broadcast live GAA until 2022 and that we have grown our portfolio of GAA rights," Glen Killane, Managing Director of eir TV and eir Sport, commented.

“While our immediate concentration is on bringing viewers more excellent coverage of the 2017 Allianz Leagues, we are very excited about a number of plans we have in the pipeline.

"Our goal is to offer GAA fans more choice and that will involve the use of new technologies to broadcast as much GAA related content as possible.

"Following on from our Rugby World Cup rights announcements earlier this year, this represents another milestone for Irish sport on eir Sport and we’re not finished yet.”

eir also confirmed today that it has extended its partnership with the GAA to sponsor the GAA Football All-Ireland Championship for a further year until 2022.

eir Sport channels are available across the eir Vision, Sky and Vodafone TV platforms as well as on the eir Sport app. All 6 channels in the eir Sport pack are available for free if you are a residential eir broadband customer.
