Elbouzedi strike secures victory for U21 side

Zack Elbouzedi finished off a flowing move midway through the second half to secure a precious 1-0 victory over Armenia for the Republic of Ireland U21 side in Yerevan.

The win secures their place at the top of Group A, although all their main rivals have games in hand.

It was a deserved victory and a perfect tonic to the 1-0 defeat they suffered against Iceland in Reykjavik in their last match.

Stephen Kenny's side play Sweden at Tallaght Stadium on Tuesday (LIVE on eir sport 1 from 7.30pm), knowing that victory will give them an excellent chance of qualifying for the European Championship finals for the first time in their history.

The Republic of Ireland currently sit top of Group A with thirteen points from six games.

Iceland are second, four points behind but having played two games less.

Italy are third on seven points but have three games in hand over Ireland.
