Gordon Elliott is looking forward to working with 'world-class' horses following the news that he will be welcoming up to 20 horses owned by Gigginstown House Stud.
Gigginstown have removed 60 horses from Willie Mullins' yard following a disagreement over fees with Elliott, Noel Meade, Henry de Bromhead, Mouse Morris and Joseph O'Brien all set to benefit from the decision.
Elliott, who trained Don Cossack to win the Cheltenham Gold Cup for Gigginstown, will welcome 20 new horses to his yard, including the likes of Don Poli and Apple's Jade but he admits the news of the split came as a shock.
"It's obviously nice to get a few new horses, but it was a big shock," Elliott said. "I was speaking to Eddie and Michael O'Leary last night, they were very straight with everything and it's a nice opportunity for us.
"The horses are coming just before lunchtime today. I think there's just short of 20 to come, there's a few nice horses and we're looking forward to seeing them."
He went on: "No one really knows what the ins and outs of the whole thing are, but it does happen - we all lose horses.
"You can't refuse them, they're world-class horses and we're in a very lucky position to be getting them.
"I haven't spoken to Willie yet, obviously he's plenty on his hands. I'll speak to him before the weekend, either at the races or I'll give him a ring."
Don Poli won the Lexus Chase before going on to finish third behind Don Cossack in the Gold Cup, while he was second to Cue Card in the Betfred Bowl at Aintree's Grand National meeting.
Apple's Jade was runner-up in last season's Triumph Hurdle before winning at Aintree and Punchestown and Elliott is excited at the prospect of working with the pair.
"I need to go through the form of all the horses, but Don Poli is obviously very good," he said.
"Willie has done a wonderful job with him and it will be hard to improve him, but if we can keep him at the same level we should have plenty of fun with him.
"She (Apple's Jade) looked very good and obviously she'd be one of the ones you'd be really excited about getting.
"We need to learn a bit about her."
