Arsenal will only sign players on loan in January, manager Unai Emery has confirmed.
Barcelona’s Denis Suarez and Sevilla’s Ever Banega have both been linked with the Gunners as Emery looks to strengthen his midfield options, but the manager has revealed that the club is not in a position to buy players due to the wage bill.
“We cannot make payments to sign players. Only we can loan players," Emery told reporters.
When asked about the possibility of signing Suarez, Emery admitted that a loan deal may not suit Barcelona.
“I don’t know about his situation. But we can only sign players on loan,” Emery said.
“I know the club is working to find players who can help us, with this condition. I know these players and they are very good players. But I cannot sign more.”
The club's wage bill will reduce in the summer when Aaron Ramsey leaves with the Wales international set to sign a pre-contract with Juventus in the coming days.
Despite his imminent departure, Emery believes he is focused on doing his best for Arsenal.
“My last conversation with him is very important,” said Emery. “We both spoke about the situation with respect from him and from us. His response has been a very good response in training and matches with good performances.
I said to you before that I want to see Aaron Ramsey with this focus and these performances when he’s playing. This week for example, he’s been the same. He’s working and training very well with good experience. When I look at every player and they’re training like Aaron is this week, I feel calm ahead of the next match because the players are all focused.”
