EPCR to investigate Murray treatment

The European Professional Club Rugby has launched an inquiry into Munster's handling of Conor Murray's head injury during the Champions Cup win over Glasgow Warriors.

Murray fell to the ground after a clash of heads with Glasgow lock Tim Swinson but he was allowed to continue after receiving treatment on the pitch.

A short time later referee Luke Pearce was advised by the TMO Graham Hughes that Murray needed to leave the pitch to undergo a Head Injury Assessment, which took just over five minutes before the Ireland scrum-half was deemed fit enough to continue.

Captain Peter O'Mahony was withdrawn in the 73rd minute after failing a HIA but the EPCR will investigate the circumstances surrounding Murray's injury.

Concussion remains a hot topic in rugby after Northampton and Wales winger George North was cleared to play on after apparently being knockout unconscious in December.

He underwent a HIA and was cleared to return, although World Rugby subsequently ruled that he should have been permanently removed from the pitch. No sanctions were imposed as a result of the injury.
