Munster director of rugby Rassie Erasmus has reportedly triggered the notice clause in his contract as he prepares to return to his native South Africa.
According to the Irish Independent, Erasmus will take up the director of rugby role at the South African Rugby Union and will be joined by his assistant Jacques Nienaber.
Erasmus, who has invoked his six-month notice period, will oversee Munster's pre-season as planned, and may stay on until his successor has been appointed.
The 44-year-old was formerly the Springboks' general manager, before leaving to sign a three-year deal with Munster in July 2016.
He has proved a stabilising figure following the death of head coach Anthony Foley, leading Munster to the Pro 12 final and the last four of the European Champions Cup.
Speaking in April, Erasmus said that he would be open to a move back to South Africa in the future and confirmed that he was still in communication with his former employer.
"I'm signed here with Munster," he said.
"One day I would really want to go back to South Africa. I would never close that door totally on myself because I'd like to go coach the Springboks if I’m good enough one day.
"That’s why it's not a straight up 'no'. There's always chats and some of my friends are still there. So I wouldn't stand here and say 'no, I'll never go back'."
