Everton had to settle for a point as ten-man Apollon Limassol fought back to earn a 2-2 draw in the Europa League at Goodison Park.
The Merseyside club were booed off by their fans as they sit bottom of their Europa League group with just one point from two games.
They were expected to brush aside the Cypriot minnows, but got off to the worst possible start when Maglica pounced on Ashley Williams' sloppy pass and whipped in a vicious cross that Adrian Sardinero bundled home.
The home side were presented with an absolute gift to get back on level terms in 20 minutes. Right-back Hector Juste was quickly closed down by Sandro and his hurried back pass rolled beyond goalkeeper Bruno Vale as a grateful Wayne Rooney collected tapped home his first goal in six games.
Although the equaliser eased the tension it took Everton well into the second-half to assert their domination.
The introduction of Dominic Calvert-Lewin gave the Toffees a fresh injection and he saw a curling effort sail narrowly wide of the far post after Rooney picked him out with a 40-yard pass.
Everton eventually got their noses in front for the first time midway through the second-half when a deft flick from Gylfi Sigurdsson was coolly slotted home by Croatian Nikola Vlasic for his first goal for the club.
The points looked secure as a tiring Apollon were reduced to ten men when Valentin Roberge was sent-off for a stamp on Calvert-Lewin, but the visitors were not finished.
With just two minutes remaining Juste atoned for his first half howler by heading a Pedro cross beyond Pickford.
There was still enough time for Everton to claim the points but Vale produced a point-blank save to deny Calvert-Lewin.
