Everton dismantle under-par City

Everton dismantled a dismal Manchester City side to emerge 4-0 winners in the Premier League at Goodison Park.

A mixture of poor defending from City, and Everton’s clinical finishing helped Ronald Koeman’s side to their first win over the Manchester outfit since 2013, and the loss now puts a huge dint in the Blue’s title hopes, leaving them 10-points off league leaders, Chelsea.

Romelu Lukaku proved difficult for the visitors to deal with early-on and it was the Belgian who opened the scoring for the hosts in the 34th minute after the 23-year-old swept home from a Kevin Mirallas cut-back.

The two combined just after the half-time break to deservedly put their side two goals up when Lukaku found Mirallas before the former Lille man dispatched his effort past the helpless Bravo.

Everton have always been associated with giving youth a chance and this decision proved pivotal when 18-year-old Tom Davies compounded more misery on the travelling fans after his delicate chip found the back of the net, in what was just the Englishman’s second league start this season.

Youngster Ademola Lookman finished the scoring on his debut when he finished through the legs of Bravo in stoppage time after coming on as a substitution minutes earlier.

Manchester City will look to rectify the loss when they host Tottenham Hotspur in a Premier League crunch-clash at the Etihad on the 21st of January, knowing a win against Mauricio Pochettino’s side will fire them back into contention.

Everton travel to face struggling Crystal Palace on the same date - and despite being eleven points of the top-four positions -will hope a good run of results can see them challenge towards the back-end of the campaign.
