FA want Mourinho explanation

Jose Mourinho has until Friday to explain comments he made about the referee in the build-up to Manchester United's goalless draw with Liverpool.

Despite having no ties to either club, Anthony Taylor's appointment was challenged by former referees' chief Keith Hackett due to the fact that he resides in Manchester.

In questioning whether or not it would be difficult for Taylor to have a good performance, Mourinho appeared to break FA rules forbidding managers from speaking about referees in the build-up to games.

“I think Mr Taylor is a very good referee but because such pressure is being put on him I think it will be difficult for him to have a very good performance at Anfield,” said Mourinho.

“I don’t really want to say too much more on the matter. I have my view but I have learned a lesson, if you want to call it that, by being punished so many times for my words about referees.”

The FA have asked Mourinho to provide an explanation by 6pm on Friday before deciding whether to charge him.
