Fellaini suffers 'bad' back injury

Marouane Fellaini suffered a “bad” back injury in Manchester United’s 1-0 win over Hull City, according to manager Jose Mourinho.

The Belgian played all 90 minutes of the match at the KCOM Stadium, but United's medical staff discovered the injury after the full-time whistle.

"I am going to lose Fellaini for a while. He has a muscle injury in his back and it is not good," said Mourinho.

When asked how long Fellaini might be sidelined for, Mourinho said: "I don't like to say that but it is bad."

Mourinho says Fellaini will travel to Belgian so Roberto Martinez's medical staff can assess the injury for themselves ahead of Thursday's international friendly against Spain on Thursday in Brussels and theWorld Cup qualifier against Cyprus on 6 September.

"I think he has to go. They have to look at him but he has to travel," the Portuguese said.

In other United news, Mourinho hailed Marcus Rashford after his late winner against Hull and suggested that the teenager will get more chances at Old Trafford this season.

Rashford's 20-minute cameo at the KCOM Stadium was his first Premier League appearance of the season, although he did come off the bench in the Community Shield against Leicester City on 7 August.

"In the two matches when we have needed a winner, against Leicester and today, he has done the job," Mourinho said.

"He's playing well at 18 but our number one striker is such a good player.

"We play now with a second man behind Zlatan [Ibrahimovic] - we can start some matches with a player in front of Zlatan.

"The kid is going to play lots of matches, for sure."
