Ferdinand, Gerrard blast Ramsey

Rio Ferdinand and Steven Gerrard have both criticised Aaron Ramsey after the Arsenal player overreacted to a push from Edinson Cavani in their 2-2 draw with Paris St-Germain.

Alex Iwobi's late own goal earned the French champions a 2-2 draw at the Emirates which means the Gunners are likely to again finish runners-up in their Champions League group and so, in theory, face a tougher last-16 opponent.

As a result of a first half incident where Cavani pushed Ramsey after Arsene Wenger's side had been awarded a controversial stoppage-time penalty, the former England internationals criticised the midfielder for clutching his face in pain when contact appeared to be minimal, and possibly also not to his face.

“I think there was a bit of over-reacting from Ramsey," Ferdinand said on BT Sport. "I think if he was a foreign player we’d be going mad.”

On the same show, Gerrard was just as critical: “I think he should be a little embarrassed by that. I thought the Welsh are meant to be tough.”

Wenger meanwhile admitted his team will probably now finish second in the group.

"At the moment we are second but it's not over," he said.

"We have a 90% chance to finish second, and we wanted to finish first. But we've not lost a game in this group.

"Overall, we've done the job well. Will we be lucky enough to finish first? I don't know, and we'd have to wait for the draw.

"You can't guess whether it's good or bad. The advantage if you finish first is to play the second game at home."
