Manchester City player Fernandinho will be suspended for four games after the Football Association rejected his appeal of wrongful dismissal.
The Brazilian received a red card in Monday night’s 2-1 win at the Etihad over Burnley following a rash challenge on Johann Gudmundsson in the first-half.
It is the 31-year-old’s second dismissal this season in the Premier League after being sent off in his side’s 3-1 defeat to Chelsea on December 3, meaning an additional one-game ban is added to the suspension.
The ban will see the former Shakhtar Donetsk star miss City’s FA Cup clash with West Ham on Friday, followed by important Premier League fixtures against Everton, Tottenham and then Slavan Bilic West Ham.
Meanwhile, Former Arsenal defender Bacary Sagna has until 6pm on Friday to explain his comments on social media towards referee Phil Mason and the officials after the Frenchman posted on Instagram, "10 against 12".
