Festival fancies set for Ascot

The Sodexo Clarence House Chase on January 23 has attracted a small but high-quality entry list, including the top three in the betting for the Betway Queen Mother Champion Chase.

There are just eight horses entered for the Grade 1 event but Cheltenham Festival clues are likely to emerge from Ascot with Un De Sceaux, Sprinter Sacre and Sire De Grugy among the possible runners.

Un De Sceaux, winner of last year's Racing Post Arkle, disappointed punters when he fell two from home in the Paddy Power "So Quick, So Easy iPhone App" Chase at Leopardstown last month but a quick reappearance is on the cards with trainer Willie Mullins keen to get another run into his star.

He could be joined in the race by stable companion Felix Yonger.

Sprinter Sacre and Sire De Grugy fought it out at Kempton on Decmeber 27 with the former getting up to land the illiamhill.com Desert Orchid Chase.

They are entered in the Ascot event with both horses looking for a second victory in the feature after their respective wins in 2013 and 2014.

Paul Nicholls’ Vibrato Valtat was third behind the pair at Kempton and could look to gain revenge, while Simply Ned could take his chance for Nicky Richards.

Captain Conan is another potential for Sprinter Sacre's trainer Nicky Henderson with Sire De Grugy joined in the entries by stablemate Traffic Fluide.
