Fitzgerald commits to Wexford

Davy Fitzgerald has committed to leading the Wexford senior hurlers in 2019.

Fitzgerald agreed to manage Wexford for three years when he was appointed in late 2016 and the Model County have made big strides under the former All-Ireland winner, earning promotion to Division 1A of the Allianz Hurling League in his first season before preserving their top flight status earlier this year.

However, the county's loss to Clare in the All-Ireland SHC quarter-final last month prompted him to reconsider his position.

A number of players travelled to Clare in a bid to convince him to remain at the helm and their efforts have been rewarded with Fitzgerald agreeing to return in 2019.

"Wexford GAA County Board today (14 August 2018) is delighted to announce that Davy Fitzgerald has committed to continue in his role as manager of the senior hurling team for 2019," a statement from Wexford GAA read.
