Fitzgerald unsure about Clare future

Davy Fitzgerald has revealed he has not made his mind up about his future with Clare and has not ruled out taking charge of another team.

Despite spending five years with Clare, Fitzgerald and The Banner County have failed to reach the semi-finals of the All-Ireland Championship for the third successive year, most recently beaten by Galway in the quarter-finals 2-17 to 0-17.

The Clare native, who won the Liam McCarthy back in 2013 has struggled to replicate that famous win in Croke Park, although he did secure promotion from 1B with a win over Waterford in a league replay.

Speaking to RTE, Fitzgerald did admit he did not what was in the pipeline for him.

“I honestly don’t know what I want to do, Last year I knew 100% what I wanted to do, he said.

“I could stay with Clare; I could take a year out. I could see myself managing someone else because I love hurling so much and want to do something different and help someone different.

“I’m a bit confused at the moment."

After suffering defeat to rivals Galway, he dismissed speculation that his side peaked too early in the season.

“Peak? No, we were in great shape for the last month or two," he added. "We had to get out of 1B. It was a must for us.

“We had no choice but to go out as best we could and perform as early as we could.

“Out of the 17 competitive games we had, to only lose two wasn’t too bad.”
