Kerry manager Eamonn Fitzmaurice hopes to have a better idea on whether veterans Aidan O’Mahony, Kieran Donaghy and Colm Cooper will commit to another year by the end of January.
O'Mahony has been a regular member of the Kingdom panel since making his debut in 2003, winning five All-Ireland titles and seven Munster crowns, but he has yet to decide whether or not to extend his inter-county career into a 15th season, while Cooper will wait until Dr Crokes' involvement in the club championship is finished before making a decision on his inter-county future.
Last month Donaghy admitted Maurice Fitzgerald's appointment to the Kerry backroom team could tempt him to carry on for another year but the 33-year-old is committed to playing with the Tralee Warriors basketball team until March.
Although he has not set a deadline for a decision, Fitzmaurice hopes they indicate whether or not they plan to return before the end of January.
"Aidan is still thinking about his future, Kieran is the same while Colm is focussed on the Crokes at the moment," Fitzmaurice is quoted as saying in the Irish Independent.
"I have nothing firm on any of those at the moment. I haven't set any deadline as such but I would be expecting to hear from them during the month of January one way or the other.
"By that stage I think it will be time to have made a call and be ready to move forward whether they are going again or not. But I would be expecting to know this month either way."
