Flamini signs for Palace

Crystal Palace have signed Mathieu Flamini on a free transfer.

Flamini has been without a club since leaving Arsenal in the summer but he has agreed a year-long contract to join Palace.

The Frenchman, who has also enjoyed spells with Marseille and AC Milan, underwent a medical on Wednesday evening but completing the formalities on Thursday.

"Crystal Palace is a very ambitious club with great players and I am looking forward to being part of that squad. It is a very interesting challenge for me and I am very excited to be here," Flaminin said.

"I have had chance to discuss the move here with Alan Pardew and he really helped me make my decision."

Pardew had been on the lookout for a new midfielder following the departure of Mile Jedinak to Aston Villa and he believes Flamini can big a big hit for the club.

"I thought it was important to get another midfield player. His playing ability will help us but also his leadership qualities and his ability of how to win games in a passing style. I am delighted that we have secured a player of his stature," Pardew said.

During seven years at Arsenal, Flamini made over 246 appearances for the club, winning three FA Cups and reaching the 2006 Champions League final.
