Forde suffers cruciate blow

Meath footballer Alan Forde has been struck down with the cruciate knee ligament curse.

Forde was feared to have suffered a serious injury when he was forced off the in the tenth minute of Meath's Allianz Football League Division 2 win over Fermanagh on Sunday.

He underwent a scan on Monday which confirmed he had suffered cruciate knee ligament damage, which will rule him out for the rest of the year.

"I'd like to thank everyone over the last few days who have text & called showing me great support with this unfortunate set of circumstances," Forde wrote on Facebook.

"I was absolutely devastated but I knew the second it happened I was in big trouble. The response I got even leaving the field & watching the game with family/friends gave me a great lift & will stay with me forever.

"The recovery has already started & fingers crossed I'll back next year all guns blazing. The journey continues & I'll be driving it on from the sidelines giving as much support as I possibly can. Thank you all again.

"Persistence wears down resistance."
