Four new faces for Ireland

Martin O'Neill has named a provisional 40-man squad for the upcoming friendlies with Slovakia and Switzerland.

There are four new faces in the squad with Chris Forrester, Stephen Gleeson, Jonny Hayes and Matt Doherty all included.

Forrester, who has twice been capped at U21 level, has been in impressive form for Peterborough as they chase promotion from League One and he could earn his first senior cap last this month.

Wolves right-back Doherty has yet to represent his country at senior level but he has played at both U19 and U21 level, while Hayes has earned a call-up after an impressive season with Aberdeen.

Gleeson, meanwhile, returns to the squad for the first time in nine years.

"Both myself and my staff have been incredibly busy since qualification last November scouting and monitoring as many players as possible," manager Martin O'Neill.

"I know that I will have a very tough decision to name a final squad for Euro 2016 and that is why I want to give players a chance to impress.

"For these two games, I would like to encourage Ireland supporters to come out in numbers to support the team as passionately as they did during our qualifying campaign. When we come together it creates a fantastic atmosphere at the Aviva Stadium and the players really feed off that."

Republic of Ireland squad for friendlies against Switzerland and Slovakia:

Darren Randolph, David Forde, Keiren Westwood, Rob Elliot, Cyrus Christie, Seamus Coleman, Richard Keogh, John O'Shea, Alex Pearce, Shane Duffy, Ciaran Clark, Paul McShane, Stephen Ward, Greg Cunningham, Matt Doherty, Robbie Brady, James McCarthy, Jeff Hendrick, Darron Gibson, Harry Arter, Eunan O'Kane, Glenn Whelan, Paul Green, Stephen Gleeson, David Meyler, Stephen Quinn, Aiden McGeady, James McClean, Alan Judge, Jonathan Hayes, Chris Forrester, Anthony Pilkington, Jonathan Walters, Robbie Keane, Shane Long, Daryl Murphy, Kevin Doyle, Anthony Stokes, Simon Cox.
