Aston Villa boss Remi Garde was critical of midfielder Jack Grealish’s performance against Wycombe Wanderers on Tuesday night.
The Frenchman singled out Grealish, making his first start since the 3-1 defeat to Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on 2 January, for criticism following the laboured 2-0 FA Cup third round replay victory over the Chairboys at Villa Park.
Garde has previously clashed with the 20-year-old over his off-field behaviour, dropping the Solihull-born playmaker in November after he was photographed in a Manchester nightclub following the 4-0 defeat to Everton at Goodison Park on 21 November.
Villa needed late goals from Ciaran Clark and substitute Idrissa Gana to set up a fourth-round home tie against Manchester City on 30 January.
“You saw the game,” said Garde. “Jack started and it was his first for quite a long time now, but I haven’t seen exactly what I wanted to see from him tonight.
“I know he has played in the part of the game when we were not good collectively, when we were disappointing for the first hour or so. But then we started to play more collectively and simple.
“But it’s not only about Jack; I was not happy with the way the team played the first hour. We were the Premier League team but for too long tonight I did not see that.”
