Arsenal have confirmed that their Egypt international midfielder Mohammed Elneny has suffered ligament damage.
The 25-year-old defensive midfielder was taken from the field on a stretcher during the first half of the Gunners' 4-1 win over Burnley on Sunday, after he collided with the Hammers' Mark Noble. Further medical examination confirmed that Elneny had suffered ankle ligament damage.
The injury will certainly keep him out of Thursday's Europa League semi-final clash with Atletico Madrid, a game which is live on eir Sport 2 [kick-off 8.05pm], however, Arsenal are optimistic that the defensive midfield lynchpin might be available for the tournament's final, should Arsenal make it that far on 19 May. Elneny's fitness will also be monitored by Egypt as they look to bring him back to full health to feature in their World Cup campaign, which commences on 15 June against Uruguay.
"We are hoping that Mo will be available for Arsenal again this season and we are keeping in regular contact with the Egyptian Football Association," read an official statement released by the north-London club.
