Lewis Hamilton looked close to his best in Canada as he set the pace in second practice at the Canadian Grand Prix.
The world champion topped the timesheet with a 1:14.212 on the ultrasoft tyre as he went 0.257 seconds faster than Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel and more than half a second clear of teammate Nico Rosberg.
The Red Bull’s of Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo, separated by just 0.012secs, were fourth and fifth respectively.
It was a good day for McLaren in Montreal with Jenson Button seventh behind Valterri Bottas, with Fernando Alonso a respectable 11th.
Ferrari’s Kimi Raikonnen was eighth ahead of Force India’s Nico Hulkenberg and Toro Rosso’s Carlos Sainz.
Hamilton, who won his first race of the season in Monaco last time out, also topped first practice after racing 0.331 secs ahead of Rosberg.
