Hamilton: I'm so happy

Lewis Hamilton expressed his gratitude for the "English weather coming out" after he dominated a wet British Grand Prix at Silverstone.

The English driver never looked like relinquishing first place and his victory cut the gap to Drivers' Championship leader Nico Rosberg to just four points.

However, although Rosberg finished in second place, an incident near the end when he may have transgressed rules by receiving advice from his team about a gearbox problem means he may lose his second spot as a result of a formal investigation which has been launched.

Either way, it was a great day for Hamilton and he was really enjoying it.

"I don't know if you can be as happy as me, I'm really happy," he said on the podium.

"First of all I'm glad that the good English weather came out. It was so tricky in those conditions, it was drying out quickly but I was first to attack it and try not to make a mistake.

"It was difficult for all of us. It's never clean sailing which what makes this spectacular, that is why the British Grand Prix is the best grand prix we have. Plus look at this, we have the best fans in the world."

Rosberg meanwhile congratulated his team-mate on the win.

“It was a bit of a tricky start, Max got me and it was an exciting race against him," he said. "I managed to get him round the outside which I was happy about.

“Congratulations to Lewis, he did a great job this weekend and I just couldn’t reach him, no way, so second place which I have to live with today.”

Rosberg had a battle with Max Verstappen for second place just about holding off the young Red Bull driver.

“It was amazing, first of all look at the fans, they are great," Verstappen said. "The race was very exciting, very tricky in the beginning. I managed to get past Nico and even at the end of the stint I was catching up to Lewis but I think I stopped one lap too late and from there on I just did my own race.

“Unfortunately Nico got past but then we still had great pace, I could still see the top two so at the end I have to say thank you to Red Bull for giving me such a great car, I think they deserve a lot of credit here.”
