Lewis Hamilton qualified in pole position for the Brazilian GP after he finished marginally ahead of rival Nico Rosberg to keep the fight for the Championship alive.
Hamilton finished with a time of 1:10.736, one tenth of a second ahead of Rosberg who will claim his third World Championship with a win in tomorrow’s crunch race.
Kimi Raikkonen finished third with a time of 1:11.404, ahead of Max Verstappen, who finished with a time of 1:11.485.
This is only the second time Hamilton has polled in Brazil and the Englishman has suggested that he has happy with his time at a track where he has struggled previously.
"This is the best I could have hoped for coming to Brazil. It's only my second pole here, it's always a track I've struggled at, so I'm really really happy to be up at the front." Hamilton told Sky Sports.
"Nico's been getting quicker and quicker, but I generally had it covered throughout the weekend." Hamilton told Sky Sports."
Despite narrowly missing out on first, Rosberg has insisted poll position does not always produce the winner.
"It was an exciting qualifying; Lewis was just marginally quicker in the end. My lap was good as well. As we've seen this year, pole isn't always the guy that wins the race."
