Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton has secured pole position for the Malaysian Grand Prix.
The Briton claimed the 70th pole of his career – the all-time record – in Asia, while title rival Sebastian Vettel was forced to withdraw in Q1 following engine problems to his Ferrari.
Hamilton’s championship lead at present is 28 points, but with Vettel forced to start from the back of the grid after he failed to record a record a time, the Briton has been given a golden opportunity to extend his lead in the title race.
Vettel’s Ferrari team-mate Kimi Raikkonen will start in second, while the ever-improving Red Bull pairing of Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo will start in third and fourth respectively.
Hamilton’s team-mate Valtteri Bottas wil start in fifth, with Esteban Ocon of Force India in sixth, while the McLarens continued their disappointing season, with Fernando Alonso placing tenth and Stoffel Vandoorne in seventh.
You can watch the Malaysian Grand Prix live on eir Sport 1 tomorrow morning with lights out at 8am.
