Harrington misses out on gold

Kellie Harrington missed out on gold as she was beaten by China’s Wenlu Yang in the light-welterweight final at the AIBA Women's World Boxing Championships in Kazakhstan.

The Dubliner made a bright start to the bout but it was the Chinese fighter who impressed the judges to leave Harrington playing catch-up heading into the second round.

The drop in pace worked to Yang's advantage and she landed some nice shots to take the round with two of the judges, the third judge sided with Harrington.

Despite catching Yang with a series of clean punches, Harrington did not do enough to convince the judges, who awarded the third round to the Chinese boxer, who subsequently caught the Irishwoman with a big left hook early in the fourth round.

Harrington responded with her own hook before a couple of well-timed combinations, but once again the judges gave the round to Yang to hand her the gold medal.
