Dylan Hartley has been confirmed as England's captain for the RBS Six Nations.
Hartley's position had come under threat after he was handed a six-week suspension for striking Sean O'Brien during Northampton's Champions Cup loss to Leinster on December 3. The suspension ended on Monday.
There had been calls for Hartley to be stripped of the captaincy and England head coach Eddie Jones had refused to offer him any guarantees. However, his position was confirmed when he joined Jones for the official launch of the tournament on Wednesday.
Hartley has now accumulated 60 weeks in suspensions but he was in no mood to discuss his suitability for the role during a question and answer session.
“We did this last year talking about me, I’m here on behalf of the team," he said.
“The challenge is to use this week as best we can to get the preparation right for a huge first game.”
England will begin the defence of their Six Nations title against France on February 4 by which time Hartley will not have played competitively for nine weeks.
