Joe Ward's Olympics are over after the Irish boxer lost to Carlos Andres Mina of Ecuador on a split decision on Wednesday night.
The light heavyweight suffered a points deduction at the end of the second and third rounds after picking up two warnings and it was to prove costly as Mina took the decision.
Having won the first round 10-9, Ward struggled to cope with Mina's style in the second and after being deducted a point the Irish fighter found himself trailing 19-18 heading into the final round.
He battled on but it was to be in vain as he was hit with another points deduction to end his hopes of taking an Olympic medal.
"I'm very disappointed. I thought I did enough to win the fight," Ward told RTE Sport.
"There's always a gameplan going in there. It was working but he was messing it up because he was really rugged, pulling and ragging. What can you say? That's boxing.
"It was a long time coming. It's very disappointing the way it went, but I just have to get on with it now and see where I go from here."
