Bayern Munich have announced Jupp Heynckes as head coach for a fourth time.
Heynckes comes in following the sacking of Carlo Ancelotti after the Bavarian giants' 3-0 humbling to PSG in the Champions League.
Heynckes has three Bundesliga titles and a Champions League on his managerial CV at the club, with the 72-year-old looking to bring in Fortuna Dusseldorf assistant coach Peter Hermann as assistant manager. Negotiations are ongoing between both clubs to make that move a possibility.
Hermann has previously served as assistant to Heynckes between 2009 and 2013 at both Bayern and also Bayer Leverkusen. Heynckes last appointment was with Bayern, whom he guided to the treble [German League and Cup as well as the Champions League] back in 2013, before retiring.
Germany head coach Joachim Lowe spoke positively about the appointment, saying: "He's an unbelievably experienced coach and, of course, he has a great aura too," he said. "In the situation that Bayern finds itself, it's a very good solution. If he comes back a few more times then perhaps he will become my successor at some stage."
Heynckes has also won a Champions League title in his time in charge of Real Madrid, and with Bayern looking to break the Real Madrid-Barcelona stranglehold on world football’s top club-competition, which runs back to 2014, Heynckes appointment appears to be the choice of a steady, yet hugely experienced hand.
