Hughes has full support of Stoke

Stoke manager Mark Hughes has the full support of the club's board despite four defeats in their opening five Premier League games.

Sunday's 4-1 defeat at Crystal Palace was the Potters third success loss and they find themselves at the bottom of the Premier League table with just one point.

Last season they failed to win any of their first six games but went on to finish ninth and chairman Peter Coates is refusing to hit the panic button just yet and has offered his full support to the manager.

“We are obviously disappointed with the start we’ve made but Mark and the management team have our full support,” he told Telegraph Sport.

“He is a very experienced manager and knows what it takes to get results in the Premier League.

“It’s still very early in the season and while these results obviously can’t go on forever, we’re convinced that things will change.”

Stoke host Hull in the EFL Cup on Wednesday before West Brom visit the Britannia Stadium and Coates has no plans to meet Hughes before the midweek tie.

"He's been around the block. We've finished ninth three times and that tells you he's got experience," Coates explained. "He's been a manager for some time and he's got two experience coaches alongside him."
