Stoke manager Mark Hughes has warned West Brom time is running out for the clubs to reach an agreement for striker Saido Berahino.
Hughes has made no secret of his desire to sign Berahino before the transfer deadline bit the Baggies had made it clear they will not allow him to leave unless they have a replacement lined up.
With the transfer window due to close on Wednesday, Hughes admits they may have little choice but to look for an alternative.
"We are quite a way down the line with that," Hughes told reporters ahead of Stoke's clash with Everton.
"You have to let these things run their course and give them the time they deserve.
"Some deals just go on and on and you get to the point where you have to move on.
"There's been deals where we have made decisions to do that.
"We still have a view something may happen, but are close to the point where we move on and look at alternatives."
The Potters have already signed Joe Allen and Ramadan Sobhi this summer and Hughes has assured fans that they are working hard on bringing in some more new faces before the transfer deadline.
"People seem to think that because hasn't been a lot of progress that we haven't been active in the market, but I can assure people we are," Hughes added.
"There's still time.
"People's attitude to doing business sometimes changes the nearer you get to the deadline."
