Hull City have sacked head coach Mike Phelan after just 84 days in full charge at the KCOM Stadium.
The former Manchester United assistant boss becomes the fourth Premier League manager to be sacked this season, following Francesco Guidolin and then Bob Bradley's dismissal at Swansea City, and Alan Pardew's exit at Crystal Palace three days before Christmas.
The Tigers lie bottom of the Premier League table, following a nine-match winless run and Swansea's 2-1 win at Crystal Palace on Tuesday night.
Phelan took temporary charge following Steve Bruce's resignation in July, and was handed the job on a full-time basis on 13 October after 81 days as caretaker manager.
The Tigers won their first two Premier League matches of the season in August, against Leicester and Swansea, but managed just one win in the next 18 games, against Southampton on 6 November.
"The club can announce this evening that it has parted company with head coach Mike Phelan," a statement on Hull's Twitter account read.
“We would like to thank Mike for his efforts both as assistant manager and head coach over the last two years.
"The search for a replacement has begun and an announcement will be made in due course."
