Injury forces Woods withdrawals

Tiger Woods has withdrawn from next week's Genesis Open and the Honda Classic a fortnight later as he struggles with "ongoing back spasms".

The fourteen-time major winner pulled out of the Dubai Desert Classic last week after just one round with the injury and it has caused him to miss at least the next two tournaments.

The 41-year-old returned from a long lay-off at December's Hero World Challenge and his latest setback has seen him admit he will need to reassess his playing schedule.

"My doctors have advised me not to play the next two weeks, to continue my treatment and to let my back calm down," he said.

"This is not what I was hoping for or expecting. I am extremely disappointed."

The first major of the year, the Masters, takes place from 6-9th April and Woods' availability to take part in the event he has won on four occasions must be in serious doubt.

More games than ever before! eir Sport will show 23 live games from the Allianz Leagues, including five triple headers. The eir Sport pack is free to eir residential broadband customers.
