Injury scare for Mannone

Sunderland goalkeeper Vito Mannone is to undergo a scan after suffering an arm injury in training.

The Italian shotstopper will be examined in hospital amid fears that he may have suffered an arm fracture during Tuesday's training session.

Although he had been due to sit out Wednesday's EFL Cup clash with Shrewsbury, manager David Moyes will be hoping to have Mannone back for Saturday's Premier League clash at Southampton.

England Under-21 international Jordan Pickford is due to start in goal for Wednesday's game.
