Ireland ease past brave Canada

A second-string Irish team ran in eight trys to overcome a resilient Canada 52 -21 at the Aviva Stadium.

Ireland opened up a lead of 14-0 when Keith Earls and Luke Marshall went over for an Irish side who was fully changed from last week’s historic win over New Zealand.

Canada equalled up the affair with tries for DTH van der Merwe and Taylor Paris before Tiernan O'Halloran gave Ireland the half-time lead, despite an underwhelming first-half showing.

The host’s second-half performance improved and Joe Schmidt’s side turned on the style after tries from Ultan Dillane, Kieran Marmoin, O'Halloran, before James Treacy ran over for a score on his debut.

Paddy Jackson’s kicking was impeccable all evening, with the Ulster player converting all six attempts, while Canada’s Matt Evans scored his side’s final try of the night.

Ireland, and Schmidt, will now turn their attention to next Saturday when New Zealand visit the Aviva stadium seeking revenge after the home-team defeated the All-Blacks 40-29 in Chicago last week.

Ireland V The All Blacks is exclusively live on the eir Sport 2 channel on Saturday 5th November at 8pm. The eir Sport pack is free to all eir broadband customers. To learn more about setting sport free visit www.eir.ie/sport.
