Ireland defender Greg Cunningham has joined Premier League new boys Cardiff City from Preston on a three-year deal.
The 27-year-old, who started his career at Manchester City, played over 100 games for Preston over three seasons and was first-choice left-back throughout his time at the Championship side.
Although it is an undisclosed fee, it is reported that Cunningham will cost the Bluebirds in the region of 4m [€4.5m].
Cunningham recently returned to the Ireland set-up after a five-year absence and played against Celtic in Scott Brown's testimonial. He was then on the bench for the summer tour games against France and the United States.
Cardiff City boss Neil Warnock told the club's official website: “It’s fair to say that I’ve been an admirer of Greg for a number of years and that he’s consistently been one of the best left-sided defenders for club and country.
“We’re delighted to have his experience and knowledge so as to supplement Joe Bennett who had a great time last season. I anticipate that Greg coming in will give us a lot of strength down that left-hand side.”
Announcing the deal, the official Preston website said: "Greg was entering his final year of his contract with the Lilywhites, but despite the best efforts of the club, he did not want to sign a new deal and with the opportunity to play top tier football, this move is in the best interest of all parties."
