A stoppage-time goal from Gabriel Jesus saw Manchester City break Swansea hearts, securing a 2-1 win at the Etihad Stadium.
Having been preferred up front to Sergio Aguero, the pressure was on City's new wonderkid to repay the faith Pep Guardiola placed in him and he did not fail to deliver, grabbing his second and third goals in just two starts.
The Brazilian, part of an exciting, youthful, front trio along with Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling, showed great instinct in the box to ope the scoring for the hosts on 11 minutes, Jesus firing home a breaking ball from close range.
City dominated the first period, as Swansea struggled to cope with their opponents' pace and movement but managed to keep the scoreline to just a single-goal deficit at the break, courtesy of a combination of some good goalkeeping from Lukasz Fabianski and a lack of ruthlessness in front of goal from City.
However, the second half was a different story, with the home side's intensity dropping and the Swans pushing and pressing much higher up the pitch.
Their display was deservedly rewarded with just nine minutes left on the clock when Luciano Narsingh's cross was gathered by Gylfi Sigurdsson and the Iceland international fired the ball past Willy Caballero - preferred to Claudio Bravo in the City goal - into the bottom corner of the net.
Swansea boss Paul Clement punched the air in delight while the travelling fans went wild, feeling that a valuable point in their battle against the drop was close to being secured.
But City lifted themselves after conceding the equaliser and their enterprise was rewarded in added time when David Silva's floated cross was met by a wonderfully-timed run from Jesus and although his header was saved by Fabianski, the Poland international could only parry the ball, allowing Jesus to tap into the net for the winner.
The result leaves Swansea just a place and a point above 18th-placed Hull City while City move back into the Champions League qualification places, leapfrogging Arsenal and Liverpool into third spot, 10 behind leaders Chelsea.
