Jon Walters eases injury fears

The striker is hoping for a recovery time of between four to six weeks

Ireland striker Jonathan Walters has dismissed speculation that he will miss the remainder of the season and says he is “very happy” with the outcome of an operation to clear up a problem with his knee.

Walters underwent surgery to fix a cartilage problem yesterday but he rejected any suggestion that he could miss the European Championships in France, saying he expects to return to action well in advance of the finals.

Speaking to the Independent.ie Walters said: "I've had a similar one done before and was back playing in less than three weeks so I'll be grand."

The Ireland striker then took to Twitter to sarcastically update his followers: "Apologies for no post op selfie. I had surgery yesterday and all went well, delighted to have moved up two cup sizes."

The 32-year-old added that the operation was straightforward and the current Senior International Player of the Year is expecting to be back playing with Stoke before the end of the Premier League season.
