Jones: England are now more self-reliant

England are now a more self-reliant and robust side according to head coach Eddie Jones.

The Australian has seen a dramatic turnaround in the national side’s fortunes with an unbeaten 2016 that included a Six Nations Grand Slam, three-Test tour win in Australia and unbeaten autumn series. This all coming on the back of a home World Cup that saw England crash out at the group stage under former head coach Stuart Lancaster.

"The players have really changed, they are much more robust, more self-reliant," said Jones.

"They can make decisions on the pitch by themselves, and we are seeing them (do that) in difficult games."

Jones’ first game in charge saw his team squeeze past Scotland in the Calcutta Cup at Murrayfield 15-9, a game which Jones feels set the tone for his team’s character.

"We got the points and got a lot of confidence from that. I can remember getting out of the bus at the ground and this little Scotland fan was shouting out at the top of his voice 'we're going to stuff you guys, we're going to stuff you guys'," Jones continued.

"That was the start of being part of that intense Six Nations rivalry between teams.

"The players deserve 90% of the credit and the other 10% goes to the staff who work very well.”
